For those whose level of alcohol or other substance dependence has disrupted their daily functioning, the St. Vincent's Inpatient Rehabilitation Program assists individuals in overcoming barriers to recovery. A multi-disciplinary staff helps patients to deal with the issues of early recovery. Patients learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of the illness, how to manage emotions and stress, and how to recognize the triggers to drinking and drug use and relapse. A thorough introduction to the 12-Step program is given, along with a strong psycho-education program that includes topics such as: the defense of addiction, family issues, neuro-chemical aspects, spirituality and cognitive behavioral skills.
